Stefanie Goldstein first noticed she loved to sing when she caught herself singing harmonies along to songs on the radio. At eight years of age, she realized that she was writing these harmonies herself, without even meaning to... It just came naturally. It wasn’t until high school that she began singing in choirs and thus instigating her career, but she has always felt music in her soul. At five years of age, Stefanie’s parents took her to see The Sound of Music. Instantly hooked, she told them “I want to do that!” Her mother then asked if she wanted to take piano lessons, to which she accepted and took for seven years. However, the real magic began at age 12 when she joined a church youth group and received weekly praise from the other teens. Her favorite part of the evening was always when it was time to sing. This was the highlight of her week, and this experience afforded her a sense of acceptance and belonging that she had never before encountered. It was from these meetings and all the encouragement she received from her peers that she felt she had found her purpose, and thus motivated her to join choir when she started high school.
As with many musicians and artists, there were numerous times throughout Stefanie’s life when she either wasn’t singing or wanted to quit, feeling discouraged that she wasn’t getting anywhere with it. Despite the common feeling of being at odds as a musician in a modern society that does not support the arts, these times never lasted long, and she always returned. As a young adult, she came to understand that the reason for this is that singing is her calling… her vocation. Her craft. She has to sing. It is not only what she does, but who she is.
